Corporate Responsibility
Giving back to our profession and our community has always been tremendously important to our firm.
Where we’ve been
In recent years, our staff have taken on a variety of volunteer activities as part of their “day job” responsibilities.
- Organizing two charity golf tournaments for the Canadian AIDS Society in 2009 and 2010
- Providing strategic advice and in-kind professional support to the Canadian Public Health Association
- Serving in board and committee positions with the Green Meeting Industry Council, the Accepted Practices Exchange of the Convention Industry Council, the Ottawa Chapter of Meeting Professionals International (MPI), and the Ottawa-Gatineau Chapter of the Canadian Society of Association Executives, and on the Ottawa Convention Centre Advisory Board
Where we’re going
Over the next year, we expect to focus most of our CSR activities in two directions, one old and one new.
- Sustainability: We plan to continue our current work in sustainability, focused mainly on the global meetings and events industry.
- Media and scientific literacy: As a business that lives by the written and spoken word, we understand the profound importance of an audience that knows how to interpret information, debate the details, and spot sensational or misleading content. And we know that limited public understanding of science is one of the main barriers to decisive action on pressing policy issues like climate change. We’re on the lookout for opportunities to make a difference in this area.
Recent years have seen the introduction of much more sophisticated tools for measuring and reporting on corporate social responsibility performance. As a small firm, we recognize the formal side of CSR as an area where we have more work to do. We also know that CSR will always be a work in progress for every organization. We look forward to reporting further developments in this area.
