Notes from CSAE 2008
By Andrew Horsfield | September 30, 2008
So here I am sitting in my beautiful room at the Sheraton Wall Centre, at 5:45a.m. local time, cursing the gods of time zones. I have been up for a while so I thought I would try my hand at this blogging thing.
I’m in Vancouver to attend the annual Canadian Society of Association Executives (CSAE) annual general meeting.
This is always one of my favourite conferences, because I really learn at lot at the various seminars, and I get to meet some very interesting people. Plus, I should confess that the food and golf are always excellent. Unfortunately Woody couldn’t make it this year so I am on my own representing the company. The new guy is soloing….
Today I will be visiting with a couple of conference planners. They organize conferences with a heavy emphasis on information and learning so they are very interested in our content capturing methods. We will begin by exploring their strategic goals today to determine how our services can contribute to their overall objective. As this is a first meeting, we are primarily interested in establishing the ground work for further discussions.
I am also meeting with an independent meeting planning firm. We want to see if they can offer our services as an extra to their clients. I’ll explain what we can do for their clients and we’ll take it from there. Most meeting planning firms are constantly looking for ways to improve their client service, so our service is a natural fit for them.
Then I can guess it will be back to the hotel to nap. I don’t remember this being such a big deal 20 years ago, but there is a good reason why they call me the senior account manager.
